Second Life and science - Things are getting rather interesting
September 8, 2007
I must admit that while I have always seen the promise of Second Life, the incessant need to portray it as a marketing machine and the whole sex/gambling thing have kept me away - Until now!!! As Jean-Claude illustrates in a post about ChemBioFoo, and the weekly Scifoo lives on sessions, it is clear that, especially with improved performance, Second Life is a viable medium for virtual poster sessions and conferences. If we can someone either add personal voice chat capabilities, or link Second Life to Skype, there is a lot of potential that I am excited to keep an eye out on. I am hardly the aficionado that Jean-Claude or Berci are, but am looking forward to keeping a small scientific presence on Second Life. And here’s a teaser for tomorrow’s Monday’s session on science and video
