I am 23andme’d out for a few days. Actually I want to spend some time going over all the chatter on the blogosphere and from today’s webcast (I took copious notes) and come back with my interpretations. So in the last 23andme flavored post for at least 36 hours, here’s a quick poll that also gives me an excuse to try polldaddy

Maybe the hype has got to me but if I had a disposable $999, I’d definitely want to try it out. There’s something compelling about knowing your own biology, regardless of the limitations, interpretations (litigations?
)
Interesting question, people will pay hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for unnecessary ‘luxury’ items, I’d personally much rather get this kind of information (be it through 23andme, Navigenics or someone else)
I will definitely try it out but I expect the following before I jump into the bandwagon
1) The ownership of the data should be clearly defined and I should be the sole owner
2) I need to control who sees the data and who is kicked out from snooping
3) The anti discrimination law that prohibits discrimination based on genetic information should be passed. Any violation of this law should be made a criminal offense. A version of the law is already in senate and is being held up by one single republican who claims that it adds undue strain on businesses.
If the above conditions are taken care of and I have a disposable money of $1000, I would definitely try it out.
