As a frequent traveler, Scifoo does not terrify me the way it does Andrew Walkingshaw, but the mere thought of being in the same room as some of the other attendees is reason to have the occasional panic attack. Too bad I can’t draw cartoons like Pierre.

Terrified is overstating the case. I just have the British “whinge” phenotype in spades.
Most of the preparation I’ve been twittering about’s for the holiday – vacation in American? – I’m taking in San Fran afterwards. The conference itself is intimidating in a totally different set of ways.
Oh, and the attendee list: now that’s what I’m worrying about! I only got my PhD this year, and British PhDs are short anyway; I’ve got a whole two publications (plus one in press, three from my thesis in various states of preparation, and a couple in preparation from my postdoc work, admittedly). Looking at the invite list, there’s a real sense of ‘one of these names doesn’t belong here’…
