By and large, I avoid blog “chain” memes, but this time I am going to make an exception. My 9rules compadre and fellow science blogger, the Neurophilosopher has tagged me as a Thinking Blogger. Since that gives rise to all these warm, fuzzy, “pat self on shoulder” kind of feelings, I shall proceed to tag some others so that they may do the same. First the rules (copied from migration).
(1) If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think; (2) Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme; and (3) Optional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote (here is an alternative silver version if gold doesn’t fit your blog).
My nominations (not an easy decision at all)
1. The Omics World – Hari’s blog on structural biology, bioinformatics, etc. He’s as sharp as they come. Plus we’ve been through the wars together
2. Public Rambling – My favorite bioinformatics blogger. Not much else to say here. Just read the blog
3. Neil Saunders – Running a close second to Pedro in the bioinformatics bloggers pantheon (at least in these parts)
4. Mining Drug Space – Joerg Kurt Wegner’s blog on cheminformatics and molecular modeling is fast becoming a favorite.
5. Damian Allis – Damian is quirky, “mad smart”, and once actually shared a computer lab with me. Did I mention that he is one mean drummer and never sleeps
Special mention. A little cheating here. Like Damian, Arunn’s blog is not about life science, but all that engineering and physics stuff isn’t half shabby

[...] 20th, 2007 · No Comments Deepak , who introduced me to blogging recently added me onto his list of “Thinkingbloggers”. I am honored to be part of a list on bbgm that contains four veteran bloggers and I am sure being his friend has a lot to do with it. [...]

[...] Who: John and I share a similar quirkiness (thanks Deepak) he’s had the benefit of honing far longer than I, which means the exchange of corny-to-off-color jokes ended only once we were back in our cars, much to the relief of the other participants. The extent to which Bartles’ music is… nontraditional is reflected in his performance venues. This had become apparent to myself upon the usual google search, where most of the relevant “John Bartles†links direct one to Dr. Demento playlists. That, clearly, was the virtual handshake on his offer to have me come out and record. If the iconoclastic screwball that did for The Ogden Edsl Wahalia Blues Ensemble Mondo Bizzario Band (“Dead Puppiesâ€), Barnes & Barnes (“Fish Headsâ€) and Napoleon XIV (“They’re Coming To Take Me Away (Ho Ho Ha Ha He He To The Funny Farm…)â€) what Beavis and Butthead did for Rob Zombie thought the work of John Bartles was air-worthy, that’s enough for me. Any of the circa-1990 to 1994 Jamesville-DeWitt Band Room Lunch Club would agree on that. [...]
